چکیده

Introduction Imaging genetics is a rapidly emerging field that is opening up a new landscape of discovery in medicine and neuroscience. The field is a hybrid effort that merges methods anddiscoveries in both imaging and genetics; its power has recently taken a quantum leap for a number of reasons. First, many groups worldwide are scanning thousands of individuals with structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Samples are now large enough to discover and verify effects of specific genes on the brain [1–3]. Second, voxel-wise genomicmethods are emerging that search every location in a brain image for statistical effects of genes [4 ]. These approaches identify coherent anatomical patterns of gene effects in 3D. Replication efforts can then focus on selected brain measures that show promise in preliminary analyses.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW Imaging genomics is an emerging field that is rapidly identifying genes that influence the brain, cognition, and risk for disease. Worldwide, thousands of individuals are being scanned with high-throughput genotyping (genome-wide scans), and new imaging techniques [high angular resolution diffusion imaging and resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)] that pro...

Quantitative magnetic resonance imaging traits as endophenotypes for genetic mapping in epilepsy

Over the last decade, the field of imaging genomics has combined high-throughput genotype data with quantitative magnetic resonance imaging (QMRI) measures to identify genes associated with brain structure, cognition, and several brain-related disorders. Despite its successful application in different psychiatric and neurological disorders, the field has yet to be advanced in epilepsy. In this ...

I-55: Molecular Imaging Overview

Molecular imaging is the noninvasive visualization of normal as well as abnormal cellular processes at a molecular or genetic level of function. It is used to provide characterization and measurement of biological processes in living animals and humans (in vivo). The discipline of molecular imaging evolved rapidly over the past decade through the integration of cell biology, molecular biology a...

Stroke in MELAS is a Vasogenic Edema and Not Ischemic

We read with interest the article by Almasi et al. on a 48 years old female patient with Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy, Lactic Acidosis, And Stroke-like episodes (MELAS), diagnosed based on the clinical presentation, blood test results, and imaging and muscle biopsy findings . We have the following comments and concerns.
